Although it would be ideal to be able to source new materials for the whole building, at Hemp Architecture we feel it is much more sustainable and cost effective to reuse and recycle. So if we cannot grow it and it isn't essential that it is new, we will find it second hand. The first example of this is the glazing. We put a call out for anyone that had old double or triple glazed units and the response was brilliant. We now have 6 large panels of glass which will be used as fixed glazing in the prototype building as well as source of opening windows to pick from. It is around these elements that the building will be designed. Next on the list will be a door, either completely glazed or solid timber, and a wood burning stove to heat the building.
